A PERFECT CIRCLE's 'Starless' Hits No. 1 On Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart

October 23, 2026

A PERFECT CIRCLE has reached a new milestone in its nearly three-decade career as "Starless" hit No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, marking the band's first chart-topper in nearly 23 years.

Released earlier this year on May 27, "Starless" held the No. 1 position for two consecutive weeks (chart weeks dated October 3 and October 10),becoming A PERFECT CIRCLE's second career leader on the chart. The band previously topped the chart with "Weak And Powerless", which spent two weeks at No. 1 in 2003.

The single has also continued to gain momentum across rock radio, climbing to No. 10 on Billboard's Rock & Alternative Airplay, the group's first-ever Top 10 on the chart.

The success comes amid a renewed period of activity for A PERFECT CIRCLE. The band recently followed "Starless" with the new single "To Whom It May Concern", its second new release of 2026, and has announced an extensive 2027 North American tour.

Sean Heydorn, SVP, head of rock at Rise Records, BMG, said: "Few bands nearly three decades into their career are still creating music and moments that are so impactful. 'Starless' returning A PERFECT CIRCLE to No. 1 after nearly 23 years proves their audience isn't simply revisiting the band's legacy; it's responding to where they are creatively right now. With renewed momentum and more new music on the horizon, this is the start of a meaningful new chapter, and we're proud to be building it with them."

BMG's relationship with A PERFECT CIRCLE spans nearly a decade, including the band's 2018 studio album "Eat The Elephant", which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, and the 2024 live release "Cinquanta". BMG's longstanding relationship with A PERFECT CIRCLE frontman Maynard James Keenan extends through PUSCIFER's catalog, including the studio albums "'V' Is For Vagina", "Conditions Of My Parole", "Money Shot", "Existential Reckoning", and the group's latest studio album, "Normal Isn't".

Released in 2018, A PERFECT CIRCLE's last studio album, "Eat The Elephant", debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart.

Earlier this month, A PERFECT CIRCLE released a new video featuring the debut live performance of "Starless", filmed at their sold-out London show this summer. The clip was filmed by Jon Vulpine and Justin Jones, with editing from Jake Johnston.

At the time of the single's release, A PERFECT CIRCLE frontman Maynard James Keenan shared: "Of course I'm excited to release the recordings, but our songs always take on an expanded personality once we start playing them live."

Recorded at A PERFECT CIRCLE guitarist Billy Howerdel's Lankershim Ranch Studio in Studio City, California, "Starless" was produced by Howerdel, mixed by Matty Green (U2, FLORENCE + THE MACHINE, TV ON THE RADIO) and features longtime collaborator Josh Freese on drums.

"Some songs get kicked around and massaged for years," Howerdel says. "But once in a while, one takes shape quickly, as if it had been there all along."

A PERFECT CIRCLE also recently released a second song, "To Whom It May Concern", which offers a counterpoint to the more muscular "Starless", highlighting the nuanced songwriting that has made A PERFECT CIRCLE an enduring presence in modern rock.

A PERFECT CIRCLE resumes its global tour on November 25, with dates across Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Hawaii. The band launch their North American leg on April 13 with PUSCIFER (April 13 to 25) and THE CULT (April 27 to June 13) joining them across the two-month outing. Tickets for all dates are available at aperfectcircle.com.

Formed in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and vocalist Maynard James Keenan, A PERFECT CIRCLE released their debut album, "Mer De Noms", in 2000. The collection debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and became the highest-charting debut rock album of its time. Featuring fan favorites "Judith", "3 Libras" and "The Hollow", the platinum-selling release remains a defining album. Their catalog has continued to resonate, from "Thirteenth Step" (2003) and "eMOTIVe" (2004),to 2018's "Eat The Elephant", which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

A PERFECT CIRCLE have headlined festivals worldwide, sold out iconic venues including the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and appeared on late night television shows, including "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and "The Tonight Show".
